South African goodies
Alongside the cakes, I bake the treats I grew up with in South Africa — the things you can’t easily buy here, made properly, by hand.
Plaited, fried, syrup-soaked
Koeksisters are a South African institution: strips of dough plaited by hand, fried until golden, then dropped straight into ice-cold syrup so they stay crisp on the outside and drench you the moment you bite in.
They are fiddly and they are worth it. Made fresh to order in batches — perfect for a braai, a party table, or a homesick friend.
Flavoured rusks
Twice-baked, dry and sturdy, made for dunking in early-morning coffee or tea. Baked in flavoured batches — ask what’s in the oven, or request your favourite.
Sold by the batch. Get in touch for current flavours and pricing.
Made to order
Best eaten within a day or two of frying, so they’re made fresh for your date rather than kept in stock. Order ahead where you can.
Collection from South Leicestershire by appointment, or local delivery.
Ask me
If there’s a South African bake you’ve been missing, tell me what it is. I love a challenge, and half the fun is getting it exactly like home.
Pavlova & puddings
Crisp-shelled, marshmallow-centred pavlova piled with cream and fresh berries — a proper summer pudding and a lovely alternative to a cake for a smaller gathering.
If you’re planning a dessert table and want a mix of things, message me and we’ll work out the spread together.
